I've never been the type to read books and it's mainly because I can never find myself in these characters. I'm an Asian-American man and more specifically, a Filipino-American man. People like me aren't included in epic trilogies or touching biographies. Big Little Man is different. It's an autobiography of a Filipino-American that blends potent storytelling with ethnic/Asian-American studies. You'll learn everything from the legacy of Lapu Lapu, the Filipino warrior who defeated Ferdinand Magellan, and the Filipino-American war to racial stereotypes about Asian masculinity and sex. Big Little Man took so many of the thoughts and questions I had about my identity and gave it context, flavor, history, and closure.
